Quick Question need some Input!!

Hi Everyone,
Rick is here researching our route and areas to stay through the US etc..just wondering if any of you have advice on which discount clubs to join...Passport America, looks good, what about good Sam..is there any others we should look at? Did any of you join a couple or do they offer combo discounts? We currently do belong to the Explorer Club..that is more for the roadside I think...which has an excellent roadside assistance program....Appreciate any and all advice...and Thank you!!!

  1. We've never joined any of these clubs because we prefer state parks or county parks. However, if we were "RV park" kind of people, we would probably join Passport America. Many people seem to get decent rates at affiliated parks.

  2. I agree with Kevin and Ruth.
We don't have Passport America because we have invested in R.O.D. , Coast to Coast and A.O.R. and have access to about 700 RV parks free, 9 to 10 dollars a night or half price, works great for us with two home parks in Ontario and we are fulltime. But for a small investment and for short term stays and travelling Passsport America appears to be a good bang for your buck.

  3. Our home park Mountain Lakes, is a Resorts of Distinction park. We can stay up to two weeks free at the home park, then out for a week. No charge for hookups. If you wanted cable that is $2.00 a day. Affiliate parks in the system are like George and Suzie have posted. Boy what a change in your backyard from your post last week.

  4. We have PA, but during the 'season' in the southwest, most parks do not honour it, as they can be sold out anyway. If you have triple A ( we have BCAA ) that is honoured many times, such as 7 Feathers in Canyonville OR, and we use it at Flying J in the fuel up and it gives you the cash price per gallon. Heck of a deal. We have Escapees, which is good for USA full timers for mail service, we use it for social and staying at their Coop parks and owned parks - great deal there. We have noticed that 'membership' parks like Western Horizons are very run down, junky and sketchy. WE use BCAA for roadside assistance. My parents belong to Explorer.

  5. We have "Campclub USA" and get half price in most parks for a couple of nights. Some parks exclude weekends though. But mostly we stay in BLM areas where we pay for a winteseason permit, currently at $180.00 which is good between September 15 to April 15. You won't find any cheaper camping anywhere. But the area to use it is parts of south-east California and Arizona.
Many small city and county parks offer free or very cheap camping.
There are various links for free camping info on the internet like this one: http://www.freecampgrounds.com/

    Good Luck.

  6. We always used Passport America most when traveling south and again coming home. Sometimes if you tell people who have Good Sam that you have the equivalent from Canada they will honour it but it's 'iffy'. We always had both as the campground we stayed in near Columbus was a Good Sam park and we stayed there when visiting family.

  7. Passport America is good for when you are just traveling and need a place to park for the night giving you a very good rate. We belong to Escapees, too, their member parks have great rates but are few and far between. You do get a discount at other Escapee affiliated parks thought. Have never wanted to join any of the expensive membership parks.

  8. Just got a letter from Campground USA saying they have joined forces with Passport America and combined, anyone with dual membership will have their Campground USA months added to their present Passport America membership it said they will now have 1800 parks in the system. It is not an expensive membership, about $40 a year so one saty at a park will usually pay with the savings the cost of the fee. We have used ours several times on vacations.Be safe out there. 9. Good info from Sam...didn't know that. Otherwise I would have said PA is not always a good deal as many places do not honor it. Still think Good Sam and Triple A are the best bets. Not as good of a discount but honored most everywhere. We like Escapees also.

Your header picture is GORGEOUS - nice to look at from a distance lol!!

  10. We are Passport America members and for roadside assistance use AMA, Alberta's AAA, and have had good luck with them both for towing and discounts at all manner of businesses.

  11. We are members of Passport America and Escapees. We also have AAA but have not used it as much with the MH when traveling.

  13. The only membership we have is Good Sam as it seems to be honoured almost everywhere.

  14. Love the snow! You guys are so lucky.
I think you HAVE to have Good Sam. that almost always works. Next, add Passport, it will more than pay for itself, then maybe Escapees.
Some where down the road I can see us owning a membership like George & Suzie but we will buy a used one.

  16. For the time we had our motorhome we had Passport America. Even getting away as infrequently as we did, it paid for itself each year. Some times it takes you to out of the way parks, which is the incentive for the parks to join up, but we found that quite often the out of the way places were the nicest.
    Good luck with your decision.

  17. We are Passport America members and we often get 1/2 price rates in PA related RV parks.

We are BCAA members(British Columbia Automobile Association - affiliated with CAA & AAA)) which covers our extended medical, RV roadside assistance, truck roadside and motorcycle roadside. BCAA also give us 10% discounts at almost every RV park we've ever rolled into.

  18. I wouldn't spend a lot of money on something just yet. It depends on where you plan to RV and the type of places you want to go. We have a membership park ( expensive ) and have only used it about 4 times in the past 5 years. I guess we are saving it till we no longer RV in Mexico, it that ever happens.

  19. We use our Passport America often. You can pay for your membership using it three or four nights per year.

  21. We have Coast to Coast which gives us up to 2 weeks in many parks for $10 a night. Affiliated parks such as RPI and Western Horizons are included. We can also stay at some Encore parks for $15 a night. We also have PA, Escapees and Explorer, for when there is no C to C in the area.

We do not belong to Good Sams or KOA as I want more than 10% off my night's stay.
